Early intervention for musculoskeletal health: reducing absence, supporting recovery, and promoting workforce wellbeing.
Trusted by over 3,800 businesses
Overview
Musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders are among the leading causes of employee absence in the UK, accounting for millions of lost working days each year. Delayed access to MSK assessment and treatment often results in prolonged recovery times, reduced productivity, and increased costs for employers.
Our MSK rapid response service has been developed to provide early, specialist intervention, offering employees access to an MSK professional within 5 working days of referral. The service is designed to minimise absence duration, support a safe and sustainable return to work, and improve overall employee wellbeing.
How the Service Works
When an employee reports an MSK issue – whether caused by a work-related incident, non-work-related injury, or an existing condition affecting their ability to perform their role – our rapid response pathway ensures swift assessment and intervention through the following process:
- 1. Referral or Booking
- 2. Virtual MSK Assessment
- 3. Immediate Advice and Guidance
- 4. Rehabilitation and Ongoing Support
- 5. Employer Communication & Return-to-Work Planning
1. Referral or Booking
The employer, HR representative, or employee can book an appointment directly with our MSK team. A convenient online assessment is arranged within five working days via Teams, Zoom, or Google Meet.
2. Virtual MSK Assessment
During the session, one of our MSK specialists conducts a comprehensive assessment to identify the nature and severity of the issue. Using movement screening and targeted questioning, we determine the likely cause and contributing factors.
3. Immediate Advice and Guidance
Employees receive instant recommendations on how to manage their symptoms, reduce aggravation, and begin the recovery process safely. This includes tailored exercise and rehabilitation plans delivered digitally through our tracking system.
4. Rehabilitation and Ongoing Support
A bespoke rehabilitation plan is developed to promote recovery and restore function. We offer follow-up reviews to monitor progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
Where appropriate, our clinicians can also advise on:
- The need for hands-on therapy (e.g., physiotherapy, manual therapy, or manipulation)
- Referral for imaging or further investigation
- Guidance on ergonomic adjustments or workplace modifications
5. Employer Communication and Return-to-Work Planning
With the employee’s consent, we provide clear return-to-work recommendations to managers or occupational health leads. This may include advice on temporary modified duties, phased return, or specific adjustments to support a safe and efficient return to work.

Why Early Intervention Matters
Research from the HSE shows that over 7.8 million working days were lost in 2023/24 due to work-related MSK disorders. Early access to appropriate care can significantly reduce recovery times, prevent chronicity, and help maintain workforce productivity.
The MSK Rapid Response Service ensures that employees get the proper support as soon as symptoms arise, not weeks later, allowing issues to be managed effectively before they escalate into long-term absence or more serious conditions.
