The National Picture
A workforce health crisis is hitting UK employers.
Workforce ill health is one of the biggest and least-managed costs to small and medium businesses. Absence, presenteeism and churn sit directly on the bottom line — and smaller employers carry the disproportionate risk because most have no structured occupational health provision in place.
Annual UK Cost

Lost every year in the UK due to workforce ill health.

Forecast +700k by 2030, adding £25bn of cost.

This is not a healthcare problem. It is a business problem.
— The case for the Hull Resilience Hub
The Solution
One programme. Six integrated services. One local hub.
The Hull Resilience Hub combines occupational health, work GP, physiotherapy and mental health into a single, low-friction service for Hull SMEs — built around what actually keeps people in work.
Occupational Health
Pre-placement, absence management and periodic questionnaires — fully managed.
Rapid GP Access
Fast remote and in-person GP consultations for employees, on-demand.
Physiotherapy & MSK
Early intervention for musculoskeletal issues — the #1 driver of workplace absence.
Mental Health
Counselling, CBT and structured manager-referral pathways for staff who need support.
Health Checks
Proactive screening to identify risk early and manage workforce health upstream.
Return to Work
Structured case management to get people safely and sustainably back into role.

The Economics
A fraction of what ill health already costs you.

National Alignment
The local answer to Keep Britain Working.
The Hull Resilience Hub is the operational delivery model for Sir Charlie Mayfield’s Keep Britain Working review — a national response to the £103bn a year that workforce ill health costs the UK economy, and the 2.8 million people now out of work because of long-term illness.
The Mayfield review called for a structural shift: from reactive sickness management to upstream, employer-led prevention — with smaller businesses given the same workforce health infrastructure that large employers already enjoy. The Hub is exactly that — delivered locally, in Hull, with the backing of Hull City Council.
“Helping smaller employers protect the health of their workforce is one of the single highest-leverage interventions available to the UK economy.”
— Sir Charlie Mayfield, Keep Britain Working Review (2024)
